Austerity fears grow amid business rates uncertainty

Continued ‘major uncertainty’ over the Government’s business rates retention plans is forcing finance experts to devise policy in a vacuum, experts warned this week.

Sean Nolan, director for local government at the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), told The MJ: ‘There’s a lot to be worried about. Despite the election, austerity hasn’t gone away for local government.’
