Connections start at a local level

Following the local election results, Labour is almost exclusively running urban Britain, having gained several key councils.

Labour’s gains included Swindon, Plymouth, Stoke-on-Trent, Brighton and Hove, while it won the mayoral race in Middlesbrough and deprived Conservatives of overall control in places like Bolton.

Very few urban areas remain under Conservative control, including Gloucester and – in the West Midlands – Solihull and Dudley.
