Core Cities urged to put pressure on ‘mute’ LGA

Core Cities is expected to increase pressure on the Local Government Association (LGA) after a mayor attacked Smith Square’s ‘mute’ opposition to Whitehall cuts.

Outspoken Liverpool mayor Joe Anderson called on the Core Cities group to launch its own attack over the issue after his council passed a motion criticising Smith Square’s response to government funding decisions.

The Liverpool City Council motion accused the LGA of providing ‘no leadership’ on the issue of government funding allocations and argued Smith Square should ‘lobby hard’ for a review of the current revenue support grant formula.
