Council shock at government refusal to fund fire safety work

Nottingham City Council’s disbelief after its request for financial support from the Government to install fire sprinklers in tower blocks was turned down has been made public.

The council’s portfolio holder for planning, housing and heritage, Jane Urquhart, said the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) had ‘reneged’ on its promise to provide financial support for fire safety work to local authorities.
