Elected mayor speculation continues

The Government was this week battling to persuade the sector it remains committed to devolution and directly-elected mayors amid speculation of a policy shift.

Following an article in The Times which suggested new prime minister Theresa May was less enthusiastic about mayors than the previous government, Whitehall moved to quash doubts about devolution slipping down the agenda.
