The former shadow housing secretary has called on Whitehall to double housing investment and freeze its landmark legislation in order to stave off a post-Brexit slump.

John Healey, who stepped down from Labour's top team last month in protest against Jeremy Corbyn's leadership, claimed that by committing £3bn up front, Theresa May's government could build an extra 100,000 homes over the next four years.
