Northern and Midlands cities have dominated a list of Britain’s lowest wage urban areas, prompting calls for greater devolution of fiscal powers.

Think tank Centre for Cities found that while eight of the UK's top 10 cities for average weekly salaries were located in the Greater South East, nine of the bottom 10 for wages were in the North or Midlands.
