Pulling out of the young asylum seeker transfer scheme

Last October, we took an extremely difficult decision – to withdraw from the national transfer scheme for young unaccompanied asylum seekers.

Given that our priority is keeping children safe, it is understandable why some may question this, but it’s important to understand the complexities of this emotive issue.

Our concern is not a moral one – we support the scheme in principle. But we are concerned that at a time when our services are increasingly stretched, there is over £2m which remains unfunded.
