Tensions rise as NHS fines 22 councils for bed-blocking

The NHS has fined at least 22 councils for bed-blocking and threatened 11 others with charges amid escalating tensions between health and care.

More than one in five councils with care responsibilities in England have been levied with or are facing NHS fines, according to the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services’ (ADASS) annual budget report.

It said it did not have information on the value of fines levied.
