£12bn needed to fill children's services black hole

Smith Square has estimated that £12bn is needed to tackle a shortfall in children’s services cash, as MPs debate the impact shrinking budgets have had on youngsters in care.

MPs were today poised to debate the rising number of children being placed in care many miles from their home boroughs – a situation forced on many councils due to a lack of resources to fund local placements.
