£20m cash boost announced for designated Brexit officers

All councils will need to have a lead officer on Brexit as the government steps up its preparations for a no-deal.

Communities secretary Robert Jenrick announced an £20m funding to help councils prepare in the run up to the 31 October deadline. According to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), £10m is new cash from the Treasury, while £10m is money held over from Brexit funding announced earlier this year. 

Mr Jenrick said councils had a ‘vital role’ in making Brexit successful and it was ‘absolutely right that together we intensify preparations in every community’.
