An appetite for reform

Now that the pomp and ceremony of the State Opening of Parliament is over for another 12 months, life in Westminster returns to normal, giving us an opportunity to take stock of the Government’s upcoming legislative programme.

Some of the announcements are not what you would expect from a Conservative Government. But I hope its focus on social mobility and improving outcomes for the vulnerable and disadvantaged will demonstrate the one-nation, socially liberal foundations this government is built upon and will include ample room for colleagues of all political persuasions to come together and agree on.
