Calls to back councils in counter-extremism strategy

A ‘bold new approach’ to tackling extremism that would see local authorities’ role bolstered has been recommended in a new report.

The Commission for Countering Extremism has called for a task force led by the Home Secretary to co-ordinate the tackling of ‘hateful extremism’ – defined as inciting hatred and violence towards other sections of society.
