Charities warned to shun rates avoidance schemes

The third sector has been warned not to get involved in business rates avoidance schemes after a charity was caught out and had to close.

A Charity Commission inquiry into the Africa Relief Trust found it was being chased by numerous local authorities for unpaid business rates totalling more than £800,000.
