Portsmouth City Council’s leader, Cllr Gerald Vernon Jackson, has urged a review of the system for local authorities dealing with unaccompanied children seeking asylum.
The voluntary National Transfer Scheme was put in place to spread the burden across local authorities, but a mere 19 children were dispersed from Portsmouth to other councils in 2017/18.
