Council slashes heritage assets figure

East Ayrshire Council has been found to have about half the number of heritage assets it had claimed following an investigation by auditors.

The authority had indicated it possessed 250,000 ‘heritage assets’ – which can range from archaeological sites to museum collections and works of art – but actually held about 130,000.
