Councils call for modernisation of taxi laws

Council leaders have demanded a rethink of ‘outdated’ taxi laws to reflect new technology, reduce the risk of child sexual exploitation and improve working conditions.

The Local Government Association (LGA) said the legislation - some of which dates back to the days of horse-drawn hackney carriages - needs strengthening as companies increasingly rely on mobile apps.
