Dozens of children in care sent north of border

English councils are sending children in care hundreds of miles from their homes to secure accommodation in Scotland, new research has revealed.

The research by the University of Strathclyde found that in 2017/18 more than a third of children placed in Scottish secure units came from England and three in every five of them were placed more than 300 miles away from their families.
