Imagine a future where we can purchase clean electricity directly from a local supply company. Where every pound spent powering homes and cars supports local jobs, funds new local facilities and more renewable energy infrastructure. This vision is within reach through the Local Electricity Bill and I am proud to be one of the cross-party sponsors.
The UK has made progress in decarbonising its economy and promising targets have been set. But emission reductions so far have been low-hanging-fruit – largely the result of closing most of our coal-fired powers stations.
