New research has found that loneliness increases the risk of a heart attack or stroke by almost a third. Analysis published in the journal Heart says social isolation can have the same impact as anxiety or a stressful job.
Its findings throw weight behind our calls earlier this year for loneliness to be treated as a major public health concern.
