Give councils the powers, funding and tools they need to deliver

The new Prime Minister has many challenges ahead, with Brexit certain to dominate Boris Johnson’s first few months and most probably his entire premiership. Yet there is much more on his busy domestic agenda, such as making sure the Spending Review closes the huge funding gap councils face, and gives them the long-term financial certainty they need to help support some of the most vulnerable members of our communities.

With Government and Whitehall fixated on leaving the EU, councils should be given the responsibility and funding to get on with delivering the vital local services our communities need and expect. My message to Boris Johnson is this – give us the powers, freedoms, flexibilities and funding and we will deliver your post-Brexit vision that transforms this country for the better.
