Hodge denies pilot deal to drop tax referendum

Surrey CC leader David Hodge has batted away claims his authority was offered a business rates pilot in return for dropping its council tax referendum.

Participation in business rate pilots has until now only been on the table for areas with devolution deals but communities secretary Sajid Javid last week said the Government would consider Surrey’s involvement in a scheme in 2018/19.
