Most councils are struggling to balance their social care budgets, but Wigan MBC generated a small surplus while radically remodelling services. Donna Hall shares her journey
Please don’t hate us. We are in the unusual position in Wigan of having a balanced adult social care budget. We also have improving outcomes – including having one of the lowest delayed transfers of care in the UK – for our residents as well as generating small surplus last year. More transformational investment is planned for future years.
