Kirklees under ‘unprecedented’ pressure over £54m shortfall

Kirklees MBC ‘continues to face significant financial challenges’ even after raiding £23m from its reserves, senior councillors have heard.

A report to a meeting of the council’s cabinet last week said the use of reserves came amid a reported overspend of £2.7m in 2016/17, equivalent to 0.8% of the authority’s revised budget.
