Ministers back council hiring of marshals beyond June 21

Ministers have defended councils for recruiting new COVID marshals for the coming year despite government plans to lift remaining coronavirus restrictions on June 21.

Hertfordshire CC, Carlisle, Sunderland and Portsmouth city councils, and Darlington and Cornwall councils have all reportedly advertised for marshals beyond July, with some being hired for roles that could last until 2023.
