New-look ethics code a step closer

Groups representing senior council officers will this week be formally invited to sign up to plans for a code of ethics for their members.

As The MJ went to press, the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives (SOLACE) was drawing up a formal letter to a number of organisations after initial talks with the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy.

The code is seen as necessary in light of increased risks following the removal of a number of key checks and balances on the local government sector, including the decisions to abolish the Audit Commission and Standards Board regime.
