Number of delayed audit opinions rockets

The number of delayed audit opinions in local government has risen sharply this year, according to figures compiled by the body responsible for appointing auditors.

Public Sector Audit Appointments (PSAA) said more than 40% of audit opinions on 2018/19 statements of accounts were not available by the target date of the end of last month – up from about 13% on the year before.
