Ofsted chief counters ‘smash and grab’ claims

Ofsted’s chief inspector has defended the watchdog’s approach and the impact of negative judgements amid a cascade of criticisms from local authority bosses.

Amanda Spielman, who took over the inspectorate’s top role six months ago, insisted Ofsted did not want to ‘hit people over the head with a hammer’.
