PWLB borrowing soars

Council borrowing from the Public Works Loan Board (PWLB) continued to soar in April, with authorities taking on an additional half a billion pounds of debt.

A diverse range of local authorities used the PWLB to access fresh loans totalling £526m – £193m more than the £333m borrowed in March.
