Scots councils in cash warning

Scotland’s local authorities are facing worsening financial pressures that could see them facing cuts to frontline services of ‘around 2% a year’, a leading economist has warned.

Professor John McLaren, a political economist at the University of Glasgow, who has worked for both HM Treasury and the Scottish Office was analysing the Scottish government’s latest Medium Term Fiscal Strategy (MTFS) proposals last week when he spotted the serious implications for councils.
