Scots welcome ALEOs decision

Scottish councils have welcomed government plans to give ‘further consideration’ to proposals to remove charitable business rates relief from local authorities’ arm’s-length external leisure organisations (ALEOs).

Finance secretary Derek Mackay said a final decision would be made by the end of the year after the Barclay Review into non-domestic rates said council ALEOs should ‘no longer be able to abuse the system’.
