Standalone firm planned for Reading kids’ services

Fresh calls for an ‘independent evaluation’ of children’s services models have been made after Reading Council proposed plans for a council-owned company.

Reading, which was branded inadequate by Ofsted last year and deemed to be improving ‘too slowly’ last month, made the decision following discussions with commissioner Nick Whitfield, the chief executive of council-owned company Achieving for Children.
