The current standards regime is not fit for purpose

Politicians’ conduct has been in the headlines in recent weeks, with the Conservative Party leadership contest focused as much on character and behaviour, as on policy.

It is also true that when visiting colleagues across the UK, standards and conduct has become a far more frequent subject for discussion and is absorbing more time at the top of many councils.
