Scotland’s Conservatives took advantage of Labour’s weakness and unionist fears over a second independence referendum to deliver their best local results for 40 years.
After the votes for all Scottish council seats were counted on 5 May, the Conservative Party – led by Ruth Davidson – finished second, beaten only by the governing Scottish National Party (SNP).
