Universal Credit halt calls grow

Ministers have come under renewed pressure to halt the rollout of Universal Credit as housing rent arrears soar under the flagship welfare scheme.

Figures obtained by a national newspaper under the Freedom of Information Act showed that half of all council tenants across 105 local authorities who receive the housing element of Universal Credit are at least one month behind on their rent.
