After the landmark events of 2016 and direction of travel so far in 2017, we know it will be a year of challenges and opportunities. What, then, might be the key issues for senior leaders in public services?

Economic growth and improved productivity will continue to be a priority. Our communities and residents need it to thrive and this is reflected in the Government’s industrial strategy. The expectation that councils have an active role in backing local businesses and economies is not new but the focus is stronger and our role to draw in the wider public sector is important.
