Westminster in phone box call

Westminster City Council has called on the Government to amend planning regulations to allow local authorities to force telecoms companies to remove under-used phone boxes.

The council wants to scrap any phone kiosks that are used for fewer than 50 calls a month.

There are believed to be about 1,000 phone points in Westminster, but the estimated 100 iconic red phone boxes will be spared any cull.
