Whitehall remains tight-lipped about 2018/19 rates pilots

Whitehall has refused to disclose details of discussions it has had with potential rate retention pilot areas that could test the new system from 2018/19.

Communities secretary Sajid Javid confirmed under pressure earlier this month that talks about participating in a pilot had taken place with Surrey CC amid claims that the council had secured a ‘sweetheart deal’.
