Whitfield questions 100% rates retention

A top council finance director has questioned the ability of 100% business rates retention to fund local government.

President of the Association of Local Authority Treasurers Societies, Duncan Whitfield, told The MJ: ‘It is a struggle to see how local government resourcing can be supported by a tax system that is under fundamental review and where yield has no correlation to local need.
