Brum braced for Government intervention

Birmingham City Council is braced for a wide-ranging Government intervention to help rescue the authority’s bleak finances, and improve political and officer leadership.

Senior sources at Birmingham this week told The MJ they believe a large-scale Government intervention was now ‘inevitable’ following revelations the council faces a fresh equal pay liability of £760m by 2025.

If left unresolved, that liability could increase by up to £14m per month from April 2025.
