Calls to close extremism loopholes

Local authorities are currently ‘having to police thought’ in their counter-terrorism role, an expert has said.

Community safety and counter terrorism consultant Chris Williams said reports that communities secretary Michael Gove had asked civil servants to come up with a new definition of ‘hateful extremism’ could finally bring clarity to councils’ responsibilities.
