With all the political upheaval this year, it feels longer than 18 months since Boris Johnson promised to re-write the rulebook on devolution and devolve powers to our ‘great counties’. Since then, there has been tangible progress – first with the Levelling Up White Paper and then the conclusion of the first county deals since 2015.
While the County Councils’ Network (CCN) helped secure a new direction of travel on county devolution in the Levelling Up White Paper, our primary focus since then has been on supporting the 10 prospective devolution areas to clearly show our member councils could make this new approach a success.
