Doing better next time

The reluctance of councils to be open about failure, to share all learning, and for other authorities to apply such insights to their own work may be holding back improvement – and helping to avert further problems in the sector.

While Serious Case Reviews encourage lessons to be learned and shared, failures which do not require external assessment rarely have to be acknowledged. Yet, such shortcomings could provide valuable insights which could help other authorities avoid making the same mistakes.
