Communities secretary Michael Gove today announced a five-year Government intervention at Birmingham, with sources claiming he rejected a role for a senior Labour figure.
Mr Gove told Parliament he planned to appoint a team of independent commissioners to oversee Labour-led Birmingham City Council’s governance and scrutiny, finance, wider operating model, appointments and performance management – effectively stripping the council of control of key functions at the UK’s largest authority.
