Is equal pay really local government’s ticking time bomb?

A number of commentators have been quick to jump on headlines suggesting equal pay is a ticking timebomb for councils, following the issue of a section 114 notice by Birmingham City Council.

Birmingham aside, and recognising that since their announcement there have been a number of additional claims by trade unions against other councils, from a PPMA perspective, we do not consider equal pay risks and challenges will be widespread in local government.
