Local authority reserve funds down for first time since 2011

The total amount of reserves held by local authorities in England has fallen for the first time in five years, according to the latest official figures.

Government statistics showed total reserves fell from £25.1bn in 2014/15 to £24.7bn in 2015/16, a decrease of 1.6%.
