Almost one in five councils believe bankruptcy is likely within two years, while doubt hangs over next years’ budgets for 70% of counties, according to new surveys.

The Local Government Association (LGA)’s poll of leaders and chief executives in England found 18% or 34 of those surveyed believe it was ‘very or fairly likely’ their council would issue a section 115 notice either this year or next.
