Sunderland care workers in equal pay dispute

Female care workers in Sunderland are taking legal action against the city council in a row over equal pay.

The staff, who work for council-owned Sunderland Care and Support Ltd (SCAS), claim they cannot access the same pension that male council workers use.

More than 300 grievances have been lodged with the labour-run council since September last year, with the GMB union claiming the workers could be owed hundreds of thousands of pounds.
