£3.7bn coronavirus-hit for London boroughs and counties

The total estimated financial impact of coronavirus on London boroughs and counties is expected to total £3.7bn in 2020/21, an initial analysis of the latest returns to the Government has revealed.

The County Councils’ Network said its members had reported that additional COVID-19 cost pressures and non-tax based lost income now totalled £1.9bn across the full financial year.

According to the analysis of responses from all 33 London authorities, the financial impact is expected to be more than £1.8bn in 2020/21, with boroughs expecting to spend an extra £700m over the financial year.
