A new way to finance councils' net zero

There are clear advantages for councils in using community municipal investments as a financing approach to help deliver net zero targets, as John Connor explains.

Last month Camden LBC joined the growing number of local authorities in the UK to launch a community bond to help finance carbon reduction projects. But they aren't the first to raise finance for local green projects this way.

In fact, going back to September 2020, our public sector finance group in Womble Bond Dickinson advised the first local authority to launch a bond issued directly to the public when West Berkshire Council issued a community municipal investment (CMI).
